The Pacific won for its “innovative approach to renewing the old
architecture that relates to the beachside setting,” the panel of judges said.
“Not only does the winner look good, it also contains a mixture of uses that add value to the local community and the new apartments have sold for record prices, making the project a financial success,” the chair of the judging panel, NSW government architect Peter Poulet, said.
The landmark development is a renewal of the old Swiss Grand Hotel involving its transformation into a mixed-use development with parking, residential apartments, retail spaces and hotel apartments.
The Pacific was developed by Rebel Property Group’s Allen Linz and Capit.el Group’ s Eduard Litver.
Its major trademark is a six-storey atrium which houses a leafy green space open to the public.
Linz and Litver ensured Pacific also features a world-class selection of artworks. Its double penthouse sold for $21 million.
Apartment projects dominated this year’s awards.
Meriton’s Mascot Central was best Mixed-Use development while Chinese developer Bridgehill’s Bridgehill Residences in Milsons Point was the best adaptive re-use development.
